The spring walk winds down much of the length of the gardens, providing a variety of seasonal interest. It stretches from the main drive to the peat block garden area. Along the walk there is a general woodland feel, with frequent views through to other areas of the garden. Numerous herbaceous plants such as Helleborus spp., Symphytum ‘Hidcote Blue’, Symphytum ‘Hidcote Pink’, Brunnera macrophylla and Euphorbia amygdaloides var. robbiae may be viewed along the route. In addition, there are groups of bulbous plants such as bluebell (Hyacinthoides non-scripta), summer snowflake (Leucojum aestivum), daffodils and quamash (Camassia quamash).
The walk passes the Mediterranean terrace below the orchard. This is an entrance to the arboretum, and features fine specimens of young monkey puzzle (Araucaria araucana), Italian cypress (Cupressus sempervirens) and mountain gum (Eucalyptus dalrympleana). From the terrace there are great views over the arboretum and meadow areas. To the east, the view along the formal avenue of small-leaved lime (Tilia cordata ‘Greenspire’) to the distant semi-circle of copper beech (Fagus sylvatica Atropurpurea Group) provides a sense of scale. Many cultivars of Japanese maple (Acer palmatum spp.) and spring flowering shrubs such as Ribes sanguineum ‘White Icicle’ can be found dotted along the walk.
